The Michigan Barn Preservation Network (MBPN) hasrecognized the Steffens barn as the “2017 Barn of theYear”for the commercial/agriculture division. We estimate that the barn was built between 1880 & 1900 because of its post and beam construction which features many hand-hewn beams.It is a “bank” barn because it is built into the hill and has a gambrel roof. It was originally a dairy barn and the hay track can still be seen in the top of the barn.
Steffens Orchards purchased this property in 1981 and rehabilitated the barn in 2011 so it will hopefully last another century. Many may remember this barn as a white barn with the name” Barkow” in the shingles.An exhibit about the barn’s history and features is in the market for the public to see.

We carry many varieties of apples in our market that are not available for u-pick, although you will see below, under u-pick, that we have many to pick from.
