We don't always do this in the same order. Sometimes weather conditions dictate when and where we do things. We encourage everyone to dress warmly because it is often very windy and sometimes cold.
Our tour will be similar to the above description but instead of a storyteller, we have a very informative video of our farm, production and marketing that you will find very interesting. It lasts about 17 minutes and we will be happy to answer all your questions. This video is also appropriate for grades 4 and above.
Donuts and cider are provided for tours. Our products may contain eggs, milk, wheat, or soy. You will also have the opportunity to meet Peaches, our Golden Retriever and Paisley our Chocolate Lab.
Teachers are asked to bring plastic bags with the children names on them to take their pumpkin home. It is also appreciated if the children have names on themselves as well. That helps the storyteller when they have questions or answers.
Please call us at 616-887-2404 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions or wish to confirm a date. All tours are by appointment and Tuesdays through Fridays only, no weekend tours. We will send you a confirmation and information about your tour. Payment is made before you leave.
School Tours: Cost is $5 per person, parent or child with a 20 person minimum. The teacher and one aide/parent are free for each class.
School bus and/or cars arrive at the market where they can park in the parking lot. We will greet your group and give them instructions. Larger groups (40 or more) will be divided usually into two groups. During the tour they will pick an apple. The groups (late September and October) will also visit the pumpkin patch to select a small pumpkin and alternate with a treat in the barn. They will also have the opportunity to go into the market and see many varieties of apples. If they have enough time, they can play on the swing set or climb on the wooden tractor and slide.
Steffens Orchards, LLC offers school, church and senior tours. The tours are generally about 1 1/2 hours long. We tour the orchards on this 80 acre parcel and have the opportunity to see many different apples and trees from newly planted to about 20 years old. We have an orchard shuttle to ride pulled by a tractor. You will also see and visit our pumpkin, squash and gourd patch. We have many varieties of pumpkins and colors as well.
