2010 Calendar of Events:

Saturday, August 14

• Market opens for the season.
• Super sweet corn, blueberries, peaches, small fruits and some vegetables will be available.
• Delicious pies, jams, preserves and lots more!
• Early apples, Paula Red should be ready about late August.

September

• Closed for the Labor Day holiday on the 6th

• If you want to enter the Sparta "Harvest on the Ridge" Scarecrow contest, you want to complete your registration form and send it in.. Come and build your scarecrow at Steffens Scarecrow Factory. Cost is $16 if we provide everything to make one. If you bring the clothes, the cost is $13. If you enter the contest, we'll charge you $2 less. Please call for an appointment. It takes about an hour to make a scarecrow depending on how complex you make it.

• U-Pick apples available between early and mid-September are Gala, and Honeycrisp. Golden Supreme and McIntosh will be already picked during this timeframe.

 September 18-19

• Kent Harvest Trails event throughout Kent County begins and continues every weekend through October 31.

September 24 - 25: "Harvest On the Ridge - Apple Festival" Celebration in Sparta. Check out the events at www.spartachamber.com Get you entry form for the Sparta Scarecrow Contest at Steffens Orchards or at the website for the Sparta Chamber of Commerce.

These activities are offered every weekend, through Halloween.

• Face painting or tattoos (temp) - Ask at the counter. 
• Picked & U-Pick apples, squash & gourds
• Ride through the orchard on the orchard shuttle
• DVD about Steffens Orchards and Apple Production
• Scarecrow Factory- make your own scarecrow, call for appointment.
• Moonwalk is free
• U-Pick Pumpkins will begin in late September. We have many new varieties.
• Play area for kids- free 
• Picnic area available - free

U-Pick apples mid-September will be Cortland, Empire, Gala,  Jonathan and Jonagold.  Honeycrisp may still be available as U-Pick, but should also be in the market as already picked.

October Highlights:

• U-Pick apples (many varieties including Ida Red, Red & Yellow Delicious. Red Rome, Fugi and Cameo will be availble in mid-October.) 
• Scarecrow factory
